Sgt. Lane Hopkins, US Marine Corps, (PCHS Class of 2019) visited the second graders today to talk about his 8-month deployment in the Middle East aboard the USS Bataan. As part of their formal letter writing unit, the kids wrote letters and made small appreciation gifts for him and other Marines in his platoon. Throughout the school year, the classes also tracked the movement of the USS Bataan as updates were provided online.
Lane talked about the various types of vehicles that were aboard the Bataan and the purpose of each, the different countries that he had the opportunity to visit, his living quarters, his job, the purpose of their mission, and much more. The kids enjoyed listening to his stories and talking with him. They asked a lot of great questions too!
