COVID Numbers for the week of 1/3:
Students: We had 25 students become positive this week. We went from 21 positives for the year to 46. Please make note that some of these students did receive it over break and were already out of exclusion prior to coming back from break.
On average we had 36 excluded this week for being a close contact.
Staff: We had 7 staff members become positive this week. Once again, please note that some of these staff members did receive it over break. We went from 7 prior to Christmas break 14. We had 2 staff members excluded due to being a close contact.
Sauk Valley Community College will be hosting virtual information sessions about the Impact Program on Monday, January 10th at 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 12th at noon. The Impact Program allows students in the Sauk Valley Community College district the opportunity to earn up to three years of tuition and fees in exchange for volunteering in our community. To register for an information session, please use this google form or visit www.svcc.edu/impact. Participants will be emailed the Zoom link the weekday before the session.
Girls basketball practice for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be cancelled for Friday, January 7, 2022. There will be practice tonight, Thursday, January 6th.
Aplington's spelling bee champion is Marley Linboom, and the runner-up is Jasmin Hart. Congratulations! The winning word, spelled in the 12th round of competition, was drudgery. Marley will represent AMS at the regional bee in February. Kudos to all nine participants for giving their best effort and for exhibiting positive conduct throughout the bee. Participants in the AMS bee were: 8th graders Ryplee Custer and Jasmin Hart; 7th graders Marley Linboom, Jordan Reed, Esteban Salinas, and Keyerra Maples; 6th graders Kylee Diaz, Kamden Sheaffer and Reid Scott.

Polo Schools will be e-Learning today (1/5/22) due to the weather. There will be no sporting events or practices.

Polo HS Girls basketball game tomorrow 12/28 scheduled at Orangeville will now be played at Polo. Game will start at 6:00 with JV and Varsity to follow AT POLO.

In PE on Friday Centennial students worked in small groups to "build a snowman." Each group had to use their imagination and creativity by using common PE items to create their own snowman.

Tonight, our District became aware of the Tik Tok challenge threatening violence on schools on Friday, December 17th. In response and as a precaution, we are working with law enforcement and our staff to ensure student safety. Please contact administration should you have concerns or notice suspicious activity on or off school grounds.

COVID Update for the Week of December 6th.We have seen an increase from last week. Students- we have 4 new positive cases. Which for the year brings our total to 7. We have had to exclude an average of 9 students this week. The good news is the test to stay has really helped with keeping students in classes. Teachers- We have had 0 new positive cases this week. This brings our total to 5.
The Centennial students did a fantastic job at the Christmas concert this week! Thank you Julie Lennon and staff for coordinating the event.
