The pathway to participation in the Scripps National Spelling bee took on a whole new appearance this year amid Covid-19 restrictions. Gage Zeigler, Aplington’s school champ, has cleared yet another hurdle along that path. In years past, school winners would participate in the region’s in-person event, held annually at Dixon High School. This year, the Regional Office of Education issued a preliminary online test to each qualifying participant in order to whittle down the number of in-person contestants to just the top five. Gage hunkered down and practiced the 4,000 words issued on Scripps’ study guide. His hard work paid off because Gage is headed for Thursday’s in-person bee, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. Congratulations on making it to the next level and best of luck as you compete on Thursday, February 18, Gage!

Polo Schools will be E-Learning today (2/16/21) due to the weather.
